Happy Monday everyone!
This weekend was a fun and leisurely one at the homestead. Patrick turned 32 years old on St. Patrick’s Day. I know what you’re thinking, but his name was already chosen when he decided to come into the world a little earlier than his April due date. We celebrated on Saturday with a movie with friends, dinner at Cattlemen’s (Steak, Yum!) and brownie sundaes at our house.
Patrick has always had a passion for ice cream and sundaes so I thought it would be fun to do a sort of “sundae bar” at home. I gave him the option of cookies or brownies, brownies were the clear winner! I made these Taste of Home Caramel Brownies sans nuts because that’s the way Patrick prefers ’em. Instead I roasted and chopped up some almonds along with spanish peanuts to top. Then I made Hot Fudge Sauce from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe. All to go with vanilla bean ice cream.
I always enjoy build your own dishes. It allows everyone to customize their portions and toppings/condiments. It also allows you to gear the options to a theme or person of honor. I made Patrick’s Sundae Bar with only his favorite things but maybe someone else would have liked rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream and a cherry added into the mix. You could do multiple flavors of ice cream, cookies or blondies instead of brownies, the options are endless. And the more options you have, the more fun guests can have creating a sundae.
Is there a build your own dish you like to make regularly? Anything specific to entertaining or special occasions? I consider pizza to be a build your own dish also, I think that’s a fun thing to do for small get-togethers also!
Have a great week everyone!
